Clinical Translators & Reviewers (Freelance) – English to South African Languages

Join ICON Language Services as part of our global freelance linguist network, working with a trusted provider in clinical and medical translations. We help pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies communicate accurately and effectively across borders, bringing life-changing treatments to patients worldwide.

Native or bilingual level proficiency is required on any of the below languages:

  • Zulu
  • Xhosa
  • Setswana (Tswana)
  • Afrikaans
  • Sesotho (South Sotho)
  • Sepedi (Northern Sotho)
  • Swazi (Swati)
  • Tsonga (Xitsonga)

We Are Expanding Our Network

We are looking for experienced freelance linguists to join our approved supplier pool. Ideal candidates will:

  • Translate and review clinical trial documents, patient-facing materials, and regulatory submissions from English into the languages enumerated above.
  • Ensure linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and alignment with international and industry standards

What You’ll Do

  • Translate and revise clinical trial documentation, regulatory content, and medical material
  • Review translations for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with ISO-certified quality standard
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and subject matter experts to deliver high-quality work within expected timelines.

What We’re Looking For

  • Native-level language fluency (in any of the above) and advanced proficiency in English.
  • Degree in Translation, Linguistics, Life Sciences, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of professional translation and/or revision experience, with strong expertise in clinical trials and regulatory documentation.
  • Proven ability to handle complex medical terminology and high-stakes, accuracy-critical regulatory content.
  • Proficiency in CAT tools (SDL Trados, MemoQ) and MS Office Suite (especially working with tracked-changes).

Bonus Points For:

  • Knowledge of ICH-GCP, HIPAA, and EU Clinical Trial Regulation requirements.
  • Experience with linguistic validation and COA/eCOA translations.
  • Familiarity with machine translation post-editing and ISO 18587 standards.
